The relation of Sai Baba to the Christ
The Christ is a planetary avatar, Sai Baba is a cosmic avatar. He is a Spiritual Regent, sent into the world by the Lord of the World, Sanat Kumara, on Shamballa. A regent "stands in" for the king. Similarly, a Spiritual Regent "stands in" for God, for the Logos, Whose reflection Sanat Kumara is. Sai Baba embodies the energy of Love at a cosmic level (the Christ embodies this energy at the planetary level) and His work, in part, is to prepare humanity for the work of the Christ. By awakening the love principle in humanity, Sai Baba will prepare people for the Initiatory work of the Christ. As the Hierophant, the Initiator, at the first two planetary initiations, the Christ will lead humanity gradually out of the strictly human kingdom into the Hierarchy, the Kingdom of Souls, or the Kingdom of God. That is His major work in the coming age of Aquarius. These two Great Ones work together in daily contact, complete harmony and shared purpose in the evolution of mankind. - Benjamin Creme
Q. In the book by Samuel Sandweiss, The Holy Man and the Psychiatrist, I read on page 177/178 that Sai Baba says that he himself is the Christ who, Jesus predicted, would come again. This contradicts what you say, that Maitreya is the Christ and is living in London since l977. Please explain these differences.
A. With respect, Sai Baba does not say that he is the Christ. If you will refer again to these pages you will find him saying something even more extraordinary: that he is the one who sent the Christ, and that the Christ meant that he, Sathya Sai Baba, would come again! The Christ, Maitreya, and Sai Baba each embody the same type of energy (the Love Principle) but at different levels: Maitreya at the planetary and Sai Baba at the cosmic level. Both are Avatars. Sai Baba does not come out of our earth evolution but is a cosmic visitor, so to speak. He is a Spiritual Regent. Just as a regent `stands in' for a king, so a Spiritual Regent `stands in' for `God', the King, Sanat Kumara, the Lord of the World in Shamballa. He may well have been involved in the decision to send the Christ, 2000 years ago, in Palestine. Maitreya holds the office of the Christ, or World Teacher, in our Earth Hierarchy. These two great Beings, one Cosmic, one Planetary, work together closely for the regeneration of the world.
Q. You say that the Lord Maitreya was Krishna. Yet Sai Baba seems to intimate that he was Krishna. Can you explain this, please?
A. I believe that Krishna was a previous manifestation of Maitreya but Sai Baba is also correct (if I may say so) in claiming to be 'Krishna'. It is a question of the level of the energy associated with Krishna, namely, love. Sai Baba is a Cosmic Avatar and embodies that energy at a Cosmic level while Maitreya, a planetary Avatar does so at a planetary level. Each is a manifestation of the Love of God. Maitreya's individual consciousness, however, manifested through Krishna by overshadowing (in much the same way as in Palestine through Jesus) while Sai Baba identifies with the Cosmic Krishna, or Christ, Principle.
Q. Is it not possible that Sai Baba is Maitreya, and that the man in London waiting to be recognized as Christ is the Master Jesus Who, you say, won't show Himself to the public until Maitreya the Cosmic Christ has done so? I am a firm believer in Sai Baba as the Cosmic Christ.
A. If I thought it possible that Sai Baba is Maitreya then, of course, I would have said so. I believe Sai Baba to be a cosmic Avatar Who works in close relation to Maitreya and His mission. I have never said that Maitreya is the Cosmic Christ but rather the planetary expression of the Christ Principle. It is my understanding that the Master Jesus is at present living in the suburbs of Rome awaiting the Declaration of Maitreya in London.
